We are the fundraising arm of the South African Board of Jewish Education (SABJE). As a non-profit organisation, we are governed by a Board of Trustees.
Our Board consists of 7 highly prominent South African Jewish businessmen, 3 of whom are alumni and all of whom are former or current KD parents.

As a graduate of King David High School and as a parent of children who are King David learners, I acknowledge my debt of gratitude to a system that has provided excellent education to generations of learners.
I encourage you to join me in this enterprising effort to keep our community schools at the cutting edge of education by donating to this wonderful cause.

My five years at King David High School Linksfield and the great opportunities I had during that time for academic advancement and development in sport were certainly memorable and rewarding.
I look back with gratitude and fondness to my school career and deeply appreciate the school environment that engendered self-confidence and pride in my Jewish heritage.
I am therefore very excited about the role I can now play as a trustee of the King David Schools’ Foundation and its new campaign Dor le Dor. With my wife Romy, a former Davidian, and with our children already enrolled at King David, I have ensured that this slogan is true of my own family – something I know that many of my overseas King David contemporaries would love to be able to do for their children.

I find it difficult to express adequately my sense of gratitude to the King David school system for the part it played in my formative years.
I recall with pride my very happy schooldays at King David High School Linksfield that both inspired and nurtured my academic advancement, and developed my interests in a wide spectrum of other activities. I pay tribute to the teaching staff and general school ambience that fostered liberal thinking, and offered my contemporaries and me an education not confined to rigid syllabus but instead, one imbued with a hidden curriculum of Jewish values and ethics.
My more recent involvement in my professional career with the South African Board of Jewish Education is testimony to my complete faith in a magnificent schooling system and to my commitment to ensuring that future generations will be offered the excellent education I was privileged to receive.

I never had the privilege of attending a Jewish day school, and in my adult life, once my interest in my Jewish knowledge grew, I realised how much I had missed. For this reason my wife and I were determined that our children should attend King David to ensure that they receive a solid Jewish education that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
The impact that the King David Schools has on our community cannot be underestimated, for this wonderful network of schools are the binding force that links grandparents, extended family and friends all over the world. I am pleased to have been given the opportunity of playing apart in initiating the Dor le Dor Campaign as I believe the pioneering founders of the King David Schools had amazing foresight in establishing this incredible asset, a legacy that is the responsibility of our generation to develop for the future of the entire South African Jewish community.

No doubt, my personal, enriching experience as a learner of Herzlia, Cape Town, convinced me of the enduring value of Jewish Education. My relocation to Johannesburg and marriage to Candy, a former learner and English teacher at King David Victory Park and an ardent supporter of the school, ensured that for our four children King David School would provide the perfect answer to our parental expectations.
I have always felt that in addition to an excellent secular education the sine qua non of all Jewish schools is the quality of the Jewish education they offer. For this reason, I was happy to support the recent introduction of the Beit Midrash programme in the King David High Schools. I am now grateful for the opportunity to serve as a trustee of the King David Schools’ Foundation and to play a part in a campaign that will guarantee the very high standards for which our schools are renowned world-wide.

Although I never had the opportunity of a King David education, my wife Sheryl and my children, Mandi and Brad, certainly enjoyed the benefits of attending King David.
I was originally from the East Rand, Benoni to be exact, and was very aware of the Jewish life and thinking in that “metropolis”. What I can vouch for is the fact that when the Hillel School (the Jewish day school serving the East Rand) closed, the impact on the Jewish community was immediately felt and the gradual dwindling of Jewish families began.
For this reason, I fully support the King David Schools’ Foundation in its campaign to ensure that the King David Schools remain community schools, for without them our Jewish community would lack their essential safeguard for ensuring the future of our people.

Former Chief Executive Officer of Gold Reef Resorts
I have experienced first-hand the benefits of Jewish education, since I am a proud graduate of Carmel School, Pretoria, the very school that produced Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein and our own General Director, Rabbi Craig Kacev.
As a result, there was never any doubt in my mind when it came to making a choice for my own children, and King David is now providing for their every need, both educationally and socially.
I am pleased to have been given the opportunity of playing a part in initiating the Dor le Dor Campaign, for I believe that this fund will guarantee the excellent standards of our King David Schools, and offer all learners an opportunity for educational experience that will be to their benefit for the rest of their lives.

Elliot Wolf

Director
Former headmaster of King David High School Linksfield for 28 years, has been with the Foundation as the Executive Director since his retirement in 2001. He has worked tirelessly his entire life in the field of education and is now fundraising for the cause he feels so passionately about. He has helped many deserving Jewish children with an education at a King David school. This has given children from financially disadvantaged homes exposure to a stimulating academic environment and a strong Jewish identity and awareness. Many of these children have gone on to become outstanding members of the Jewish and both in South African and abroad.

Raelene Tradonsky

Raelene Tradonsky (née Shapiro), former Davidian and proud mother of three Davidians, left commerce to join Elliot Wolf at the Foundation as a full time Fund raising director in 2010. Raelene’s enthusiasm and positive approach has helped to grow the fundraising arm of KD schools, to ensure the continuation of the subsidy programme for deserving learners, and to secure the King David schools for the next generation.
